What Does a Haircut and a Fishing Guide Have in Common? (Answer: One Has a Map Guide)

Today was my first haircut since January 2023. I have been thinking I wanted the ends cut for the past two weeks. This morning, I woke up with the thought that it better happen today, or I would be chopping it off myself. I had gotten to the point where my hair was irritating me. This has happened in the past – the irritating part. In California I felt comfortable enough to go to one of the “walk-in” hair salons for a cut.

For some unknown reason I did not feel comfortable trying a “walk-in” place here in Saint Michael. Luckily for me the salon about half a mile away could get me in at 2:30pm today. The hair stylist said she was okay with my usual, “just cut it keeping in mind that I do not blow dry or style my hair and hardly ever put ‘product’ on my hair. I want to wash it and brush it.”

She agreed to let me leave the salon with wet hair. As I told her, I wanted to see how my cut looks when it air dries. After all, that is how it will look going forward. I like how it turned out.

Now that my head has been ‘pruned’ the grey is more noticeable. My head feels lighter though and I like how soft my hair feels to the touch today. My hair is still long enough to put it in a small ponytail or to clip on top of my head.

From the hair salon I was able to get in with my favorite nail person, Amy, to get my nails done. A bit of pampering and I feel I can be civil again.

New haircut!

My brother, Jeff, and I chatted by phone this morning. I do not have to do anymore lake research as he is purchasing a West Metro Area Minnesota Fishing Map Guide. This looks to be an amazing book which their website describes as

“a thorough, easy-to-use collection of detailed contour lake maps, fish stocking and survey data, and the best fishing spots and tips from area experts.

Fishing maps, detailed area road maps and exhaustive fishing information are provided in this handy, 224-page, 8 ½ x 11” spiral-bound volume.

Lake maps and detailed fishing information for over 200 lakes from Minneapolis (west of the Mississippi) to Willmar are featured in this volume. Lake Minnetonka, Prior Lake and Medicine Lake are just a few of the popular waters covered.

Whether you’re dodging pleasure boaters while casting bucktails for muskies on Lake Minnetonka, casting jigs for panfish on Lake Waconia or enjoying the Twin Cities skyline while fishing Lake Calhoun, you'll find all the information you need to enjoy a successful day out on the water on one of Minnesota’s many excellent fisheries.

Know your waters. Catch more fish with the Minnesota West Metro Area Fishing Map Guide.

Who even knew something like this existed? My brother did. He will bring the guide with him on his visit at the end of the month and will make his own notes as we pick lakes to visit so he can do a visual inspection of the docks at the lakes he might want to fish on during a planned trip in 2025. Jeff owns other guides for parts of Michigan, and he might have said for Ohio as well. The Fishing Map Guide is the coolest thing.

I wish there were a similar map guide similar for hair and nail salons.
