My cousin Denise made us a lovely breakfast this morning before we started out for Dublin, Ohio. The four-hour drive to visit my niece, Caity, and her husband, Hunter was uneventful. We drove through a part of West Virginia and into Ohio on Highway 70 which is a part of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Highway.
We had a lovely visit with Caity, Hunter, and their fur-baby, Duncan. Duncan is adorable and enjoyed playing with Joe and Hunter during our visit. Caity is a middle school permanent guest teacher. I learned about permanent guest teachers today. They are full-time substitute teachers assigned to a specific school Monday through Friday. Unlike traditional subs they are not called as needed, instead they show up every day and help wherever assigned. Permanent guest teachers do not get paid for days off and they only earn one paid day off for an entire school year. Caity is currently interviewing for a full-time regular teaching position.
Hunter is a Ph.D. candidate at Ohio State University. He expects to graduate
in 2026 with his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. Hunter and Joe shared "mishaps
in labs" stories. Hunter and Joe also took turns playing with
Duncan.
After visiting for three and a half hours, we went to dinner at Kitchen
Social. Great food if you ever get to Dublin, Ohio.
After dinner and an exchange of goodbyes we drove to Middletown, Ohio, to visit another niece, Renee. Caity is the youngest of my youngest brother’s daughters and Renee is the oldest daughter of my middle brother. (I have not gotten permission, yet, to use my brothers' names in this blog).
It rained heavily twice on the hour and a half drive to Middletown. The visibility during the storms was limited and we drove at 45 mph in a 70-mph speed limit zone. We were relieved to arrive in one piece. Residents were happy to have the much-needed rain!
Renee is a staff attorney at Ohio Twelfth District Court of Appeals. Like all (I mean ALL my nieces and nephews) she is a joy to visit. Even though she will be working tomorrow, we will have the chance to spend time with her tomorrow evening.
Tuesday morning we will be heading north to Coldwater, Michigan where we will spend almost three weeks before heading on to Minnesota on July 1, 2023.
