Last night, Joe and I enjoyed a date night at Appleby’s in nearby Buffalo. We had an alcoholic drink and shared an appetizer. Select appetizers are half price between 5pm and 6pm (happy hour) and then from 9pm to closing, midnight.
Late this afternoon we headed out to explore more of Buffalo. We go there weekly to shop for groceries at Cub or to Menards (hardware, thing Lowe’s or Home Depot). We had not been downtown. It’s a lovely downtown area even though they have the lakefront road partially closed for construction. I was pleasantly surprised to discover there is a Buffalo Lake.
Even though Buffalo’s population is slightly over 16,000
people they have lots of boutique types of businesses as well as major chains
like Walmart and Menards. My guess is
that it is a shopping and medical hub for many of the smaller towns like Rockford
(population 4502, it was 4500 but I added 2 for Joe and me).
We then drove backroads around Buffalo toward Delano and
back to Rockford. At one point I took a gravel road for about three miles,
reminding me of our adventures with Joan and Gary in Michigan in June. Joe and
I are eager to scout out areas, so we know more as we look for our own home in
this next year.
Joe talked with the neighbor directly across from us. She and
her husband are real estate agents. Joe said she gave him her name twice; however,
it has slipped his mind. They talked a bit about the market and areas to
purchase homes in. She explained to Joe that as an agent she cannot refer to
certain areas as better than other areas. However, mention was made that we are
smart to use our time in the coming year to become familiar with neighborhoods.
She also suggested we check out the neighborhoods we like at different times of
the year.
Our neighbors appreciated Joe explaining our relationship to
Megan and that we have a flat in the basement. As a nosy neighbor, myself, I
appreciate Joe’s sharing our situation. The neighbor told Joe that Megan and
Jeremy have done a good job of taking care of the yard and house, unlike the
former owners. In their defense, the former owners had four or five teenagers
and both parents worked outside of the home.
I plan to spend the evening binge watching Ted Lasso.
Exploring Buffalo Minnesota Area, your new home area looks beautiful. I found out years ago that no matter where I travel in the US and the world that there is a special beauty and wonderful people everywhere. I hope to get to visit you sometime.
