Ravioli, Wipes, and Democracy

Joe and I went to vote this morning. We always prefer mail-in or early voting so we can beat the long lines. This year’s ballot in our community was short and simple, just two school bond measures.

Joe and I never miss an opportunity to vote. We both grew up in a time when voting was considered important, and that value still drives us today. It was terrific seeing so many people out casting their ballots this morning! The entire process took maybe five minutes, and we were happy to do our part.

After we voted, Joe dropped me off in Rockford so I could spend the day with Megan and Oliver. Today, Oliver enjoyed ravioli in tomato sauce for lunch. By the time he finished, it looked like he’d gone a few rounds with a spaghetti monster. It took about seven wipes to tackle the worst of it, and then Megan came behind me with another to finish the job. His sweet little face was completely orange.

Me to Oliver: “Is this your presidential Halloween costume?”
Oliver to Grandma: “Ohhh…”

He’s saying “ohhh” a lot these days, according to Megan.

We played for a few hours after lunch, right up until diaper-changing time. That mess rivaled his ravioli face. I told him he stinked, and he looked me square in the eye  with a huge smile on his face and said, “Ohhh…” The kid’s gonna be a comic.

Yesterday marked day 28 of my Leveling Up Midlife program, and I’m excited to share that I’ve lost 13.375 inches total in the first four weeks! Measurements include the neck, upper arms, waist, belly button area, hips, and both legs. I’m also down almost thirteen pounds. The best part? I’m never hungry, and I don’t crave sugar—though I can have it if I want.

Yesterday I also invited my Facebook friends to follow the Leveling Up Midlife Facebook page. They post recipes and videos on women’s health topics, and I was happy to see that quite a few friends checked it out. Even if you’re under forty and in great shape, there’s good information there for women as they age. One thing I hadn’t realized before starting this program is how much muscle women lose as they get older, and how much that affects weight loss. I’m working on those muscles!

(Note to Ginger: gaining muscle does not mean I’ll look like a female bodybuilder...)

I hope your day was as full of love and laughter as mine was today. And if you haven’t already voted - remember to vote tomorrow!
