Day nine of vacation saw Joe helping Dave at the local community theater. They were building walls for a play that we will be seeing tomorrow night. Shawna (Dave & Elizabeth’s daughter) is assistant stage manager which is quite a complex job from what she describes. One of Dave’s interests is behind the scenes work in a local theater. He got Shawna involved a few plays ago and she is building a reputation as someone who can do whatever jobs they give her.
Joe and I started the
morning with meeting Judy Barnes and touring the lapidary in her community. We
appreciated her taking the time. In addition to an interest in rocks/stones,
Judy teaches jewelry making classes at the community center.
We managed to get some
grocery shopping done along with getting our car washed and the gas tank filled
up. All the usual things we’d be doing at home.
Elizabeth and I visited for
awhile and then headed out to dinner at Texas Roadhouse with Elizabeth’s
friend, Wendy Rhodes. Joe and Dave met us there. We had a nice dinner but the
best part for me is always the time spent talking with friends.
It was a pleasure to meet
Wendy. We spent about 2-1/2 hours chatting and the time flew by. I appreciated
the stories she shared with me of her life over the past several years. I
appreciated her vulnerability in sharing. As an active board member of the community
that she and Elizabeth live in, she has insights into the working of an
organization, from a volunteer perspective, that I never would have considered.
Wendy’s background is as a Parliamentarian. Elizabeth introduced us because, “You
are two people I know who love people!”
Wendy is someone I would
like to know better. In my usual ‘investigative reporter’ way I went online to
discover more about Wendy/ I was excited to learn that she had been a content
coordinator. The description of her work read: coordinating, proofreading, and
copyediting the content of a monthly local community-based 44-to-46-page
publication, interviewing people for different sections of the publication,
coordinating with photographers and the area director for a fully finished product
to meet publication deadlines. The mission of "Life on the Lakes" is
to help the neighborhood of Val Vista Lakes continually grow its sense of
community. I assist the area director in this by helping to connect residents,
sharing their photos/stories, and introducing the best local businesses.
Another thing we have in
common!
A highlight of our day was getting photos from Megan of our furniture delivery to her home (and our temporary new home) in Minnesota. Seems everything made it in one piece. We have nine months to make any claims but sounds like it won’t be necessary. My biggest concern was Joe’s tool carts. They made it intact.
The drivers for the moving company were Tony and Shelly. Megan grabbed a photo of them when they finished the delivery. Tony and Shelly both have their truck driving license, and both load the moving vans. Shelly also does the paperwork associated with the move.
The rest of the photos
Megan sent are of the tool carts in the garage, her utility room with boxes to
be unpacked when we settle in our own home (eventually), and the open living
space in the basement that has our furniture. There is a game table in the
basement that we will move a bit out of the way to create a ‘living room.’
Our couch would not fit through the doors to the basement so it has a new home in Megan's family room.
