Day 7 in Gilbert, Arizona

Today warmed up just in time for us to meet DeeDee and Mark Hoerner for a patio lunch at So Cal Fish Taco Co in Gilbert. DeeDee and I met in 2003 when we worked on our Mary Kay business at the same time in the Sacramento area. They moved for work transfers several years ago and have built a home about 30 minutes from Gilbert.

DeeDee and Mark enjoy living in Arizona. Mark, an avid golfer, said to please let bloggers know that there have been 15 frost delays so far this year. It is unheard of to have so many. A normal year is 5 delays. Also, the delays last an hour or more whereas past delays would be 15 minutes to half an hour. There has also been more rain in this area than in past years.

We also got to check out the Hoerner’s Eurovan. They were able to purchase it used and Mark fixed it up. Volkswagon last produced the Eurovan for sale in the U.S. in 2003. DeeDee has made several trips in it to California to take care of her father’s estate. She loves the freedom the van gives her to sleep anywhere. With a pop-up tent that sleeps two and seats that fold down to a bed inside the van she has been quite cozy. On her first trip she tried sleeping in the tent and nearly froze! She has decided the tent is for warm weather camping.

We enjoyed talking with them about what they have been up to since their own retirement a couple of years ago.

One of the best parts of my Mary Kay business was making friends like DeeDee. This was the first time we met Mark and it was enjoyable to spend time learning about his work experience. Joe and Mark had the hood open on the Eurovan while DeeDee was showing me all the nifty inside features. As we were leaving, Joe told me he learned a lot from Mark and appreciated his tips on which used pickups are a good buy.

We ended our day attending a performance of The Odd Couple, Female Version at the Mesa Arts Center with Dave and Elizabeth. The Center is a beautiful building so I 'borrowed' a photo from their website.
