Getting Around (Road Trip Day 66)

Joe is doing a lot better after a second chiropractic appointment this morning. He was also happy to find a barber and get his hair cut. He almost always has his hair cut every 6 weeks and he was long overdue. We decided to tag on a few other errands while we were out, and about which gave us the opportunity to see quite a bit of Altoona.

I was driving today and there were plenty of wrong turns! It appears Altoona saves money by not using street signs. I guess they are counting on technology to get folks to where they want to go. We use the WAZE application, and it has worked for us most of the time during our days on the road. Not so much today. Okay. WAZE was working, Beth was struggling. My mistake was in trying to find a street name.

We also wanted to get the car washed. We had to remove the roof compartment which took extra time. Then in the middle of our errands I got a personal call that required my full attention. Next, we attempted to locate a credit union to get cash. One was closed. Two others would not take a debit card and do a transaction. We were able to find an ATM with the appropriate logos and they charged a fee. Bummer.

Of course, the highlight of the day was visiting with Anne for multiple hours. She had made us a lovely scrambled egg breakfast with fresh blueberries and her savory scones with ham and cheese. Becca joined the three of us for dinner in downtown Altoona at JJ Hadley & Company Brewers where we ate salads, shared pesto mushroom pizza, a Mexican Street Corn pizza, and A Sweet Heat Pizza that included siracha and jalapenos and ate Berkey Creamery ice cream.

Across from the restaurant was this mural:

Anne shared, "Everytime I look at this mural, it reminds me that my ancestors walked these same streets."

And then there is our selfie for the evening:
