Thursday Outing

Megan and I went shopping in Maple Grove today. Neither of us especially enjoy shopping so we bought what we went for and then had lunch out as a treat. Sushi!

It was the first mother-daughter only outing we had since we moved here on July 1st. It was nice to sit and catch up. While we may see each other every day it is not just the two of us sitting down to chat. She has her own routine and I have mine.

Joe stayed at home with the children. They unpacked our chess/checkers board that matches theirs so that Joe could simultaneously play chess with Caleb on one board and checkers with Charlotte on the other board. He shared later that they also played other games and watched a movie (he fell asleep). Megan had prepared their lunches in advance and written down instructions for feeding them. It reminded me of how she used to write out specific instructions when we would pet sit.

Okay, we are the kind of people who need instructions for other people’s children. Obviously, our own children ran amok.

I came home from our shopping trip and promptly took a nap. When I woke up, Joe was reading, and Charlotte was quietly playing with the Legos. I am happy the children feel comfortable enough to come down and play throughout the day.

Tomorrow and Saturday Jeremy, Megan, and the children will be gone for dinner as they celebrate a family adoption (Jeremy’s sister’s family) and a pre-season college football practice session. Joe and I are planning to make a pot roast in the crock pot to hold us over. Makes us appreciate that Megan does the meal planning and cooks dinner most evenings. We show up with a salad and then try to help clean up after dinner. Some nights one of the children assists Megan with the clean-up chore.

Last night was the last night of soccer season for Charlotte and Caleb. Jeremy shot these photos.

Charlotte (age 7)

Caleb (age 9)

Follow-up: Susan and Nancy, I was sorry to read that you too have fallen victim to the mandoline slicer's wicked blades. It belongs to Megan, so I won't throw it away. I'll just be more cautious in the future. I really don't need to slice the last bit further...

Goodbyes

Goodbye leaves! About 90% of the leaves are off of the trees in the neighborhood. Our Maple out front still has leaves but almost all of the...
