Caleb, Charlotte, and I went to the movies today and watched Lilo & Stitch. It was our first time using the unlimited popcorn bucket — a very exciting milestone, if you ask the three of us! Before the movie started, Charlotte warned me I’d probably cry. She said she nearly did when she watched it with her mom recently. Well, she was right. I cried! Lilo & Stitch was such a heartwarming escape — exactly the kind of break I needed from the constant stream of political and world news.
Aside from checking out the major headlines this morning, I gave myself permission to step back from it all for the sake of my mental health. Time at the theater with Caleb and Charlotte is always grounding. The moment the lights dim, I feel like I’m transported to another world (see the photo above — pure movie magic!).
Tonight was our International Yum tasting night, and this time the snacks were from Greece! Except for the Ouzo-flavored hard candy — Jeremy was not a fan — the rest of the fifteen-or-so snacks earned a happy face (either a “love it” or “like it”).
On the way home from Megan and Jeremy's, though, we got caught in a torrential downpour. Visibility dropped fast, and I found myself driving 45 mph in a 55 mph zone just to feel safe. I thought about pulling over but worried I’d drift off the pavement and get stuck. It was tense for a while, but we made it home safely.
Tomorrow, we’ll be joining the local No Kings protest from 10:00 AM to noon. If you’re also planning to attend a demonstration, please be safe and take care of one another.
